Learn to Scuba Dive!
PADI The world’s most popular dive program!
The PADI OPEN WATER course is our entry-level, learn to dive course and will allow you to dive anywhere in the world.
Learn to dive with PLUNGE and you’ll never look back. We’ll introduce you to the wonders of the marine world and ensure your underwater experience will be educational, safe and lots and lots and lots of fun.
At PLUNGE, our Dive Today philosophy will show you what diving is from the first day you arrive! With our superbly beautiful location on Sydney Harbour, you’ll get into the water and experience scuba diving on the first day of the course.
Our unique location and personalised course structure makes logistics for you really easy and allows you to fully enjoy the benefits of learning to dive the PLUNGE way!
- We are the only dive shop located on the waters edge of spectacular Sydney Harbour. This means time is not wasted travelling between dive centre and dive site.
- Rather than spending time watching the Learn to Dive DVD in our classroom, you watch it at your leisure in the comfort of your own home.
- We have three scheduled course options with a maximum of 4 students per instructor. If these do not suit, we can adapt a more flexible schedule (extra fee may apply – please ask for further details).
All of this means we can easily complete your PADI Open Water course in only three days.
Our three scheduling options:
Saturday, Sunday & Saturday
Saturday, Sunday & Monday
Wednesday, Thursday & Friday
8:30am till 5:30pm every day
What’s involved in our PADI Open Water course?
Our PADI Open Water course is divided into 3 sections - Theory, Confined Water training and Open Water dives.
The theory session ensures you understand the main principles of diving and is facilitated by video and instructor tuition. We will provide you with all of your study materials.
The confined water training is conducted in swimming pool-like conditions. You’ll first don your equipment and begin your scuba training in water shallow enough to stand-up in, so you feel comfortable before going deeper.
Once you’re confident with the equipment and have completed the required skills in confined water, you’ll do up to 6 ocean dives depending on the Open Water Program you choose.

*What’s not included in the course:
- Diving Medical - In Australia we have a Standard, which stipulates, that in order to learn to dive, a diving medical must be undertaken. This is not included in the price of the course and must be completed before beginning your program. Click here for a list of doctors and the appropriate medical form.
- Mask, snorkel & boots – we consider comfort and hygiene very important. We want you to get the most out of your diving experience and enjoy it as much as possible. In order to do this, you need to be comfortable in your equipment. Hire masks tend to leak as they have been used by all shaped faces, hygiene can be an issue using certain defogging methods such as spitting, snorkels sit in mouths and boots with many different bare feet can pose hygiene issues.
We will provide you with fins and wetsuits AND, as we’re asking you to purchase some equipment, we feel it’s only fair to offer something in return, so ...
Once enrolled in our courses, all students are automatically entitled to a discount off any equipment purchased before and up to one month after completion of their course. |
We limit our course size to a maximum of 4 students per instructor and NOT instructional staff. Instructional staff is a term used to include Assistant Instructors (AI) and Divemasters (DM) along with Instructors. AI’s and DM’s are not qualified to assess skills. Their function is to assist a qualified instructor. At PLUNGE we ensure that no more than 4 students enter the water with a qualified instructor and often we’ll add an instructional staff member for extra supervision and assistance on this small group. Our commitment is to you getting the most personal attention and maximising your safety, enjoyment and time underwater! |

CONTINUING EDUCATION
Once you have completed your PADI Open Water course a world of diving is waiting for you. There are so many different types and diving experiences available. The best way to investigate these is through further training as many dive sites that you want to visit may be in depths beyond your current training or require specialised techniques.
At PLUNGE, we’re happy to sit down with you and discuss what you want to get out of diving and where you want to take it. Simply contact us to make an appointment with our Training Manager or one of our instructors.
